Multicultural Music Education & Spanish Resources

In this session, teachers will explore a practical approach to multicultural music education, with guidance on how to connect with Latinx students and help them feel represented in the classroom in a culturally responsible way.

This presentation includes exclusive access to eight original Musicplay Spanish songs featuring Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Bolivia, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. Teachers will learn the musical and cultural context behind each song, explore the activities/music games provided, and discover practical ways to connect these resources to their own curriculum.

Take a Shape and Colour It In

Using simple shapes and colours the session will explore ways to establish and reinforce the relationship between pulse and rhythm. We will use 6 shapes to play echo games, memory games, sequencing and reading games. We will use the 6 coloured shapes to create different textures, to create patterns, to use the simple shape compositions to accompany songs, to challenge non music reading and music reading students to create a more structured piece. Using songs and rhymes from MusicPlayOnline we will challenge your students to find ways to add different timbres and textures to the vocal material using only simple coloured shapes.
