Stamp, Clap, Clap

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Explore Body Percussion: Introduce the four basic movements: stamp, patsch, clap, and snap. The A section moves from low to high sounds and establishes the 3/4 meter.
  • Add the Song: Say the movement words, add the actions, then sing the melody while performing the body percussion.
  • Create a B Section: Invite students to create their own three-beat movement phrases. Repeat each phrase three times, keeping “stamp, clap, click” and “stomp! (here we go!)” as written.
  • Try Movement Ideas: Clap and turn around, Jump and touch the ground, or Twist and give a click.
  • Transfer to Instruments: Connect low-to-high body percussion with low-to-high non-pitched percussion. For example: stamp = low drums, patsch = small drums, clap = claves, snap = bells.
  • Experiment & Reflect: Let students suggest different instrument combinations. Perform, listen, discuss what works, and revise.
