Titanic!
Titanic Lesson:
In Musicplay 5, song #84 is The Ship Titanic. With all the coverage of the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster, this is a great week to teach the song.
1. Have a discussion with your students to find out how much they already know about the disaster. Write a list of facts that they know on the board.
2. Listen to the recording of the song on MusicplayOnline: The Ship Titanic
3. Ask the students to tell you how many of the facts are probably accurate. (Were the lines on fire when the captain tried to wire? )
4. Discuss the mood of the song. Does the mood really fit with the scope of the tragedy that the song is about?
5. For students that are proficient recorder players, try to learn to play the theme song from the movie "Titanic" by ear, beginning on F. You'll need to teach the students the Bb.
In Musicplay for Middle School, the performance and accompaniment tracks for My Heart Will Go On, the theme song from the movie "Titanic" are included. Lyrics are not printed in the guide, but can be easily found by doing an internet search.
