Music Monday Collaboration with The Coalition for Music Education

Music Monday is an opportunity to celebrate the role of music in our schools and communities. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students, teachers, families, and music-makers across Canada come together to recognize how music connects us—all joining in the spirit of #TogetherInHarmony.
At 12:30 pm ET, participants from coast to coast will sing and perform this year’s song, Hold On, as part of a nationwide moment of connection and celebration. Music Monday can take many forms—whether in your classroom, a school assembly, or a community performance—and it’s all about highlighting the impact of music education.
This year, MusicplayOnline is excited to offer additional resources to give you more options for student participation. We’ve included accessible materials designed to maximize involvement, including a movement routine with scarves and simplified vocal arrangements—making it easier than ever for all students to take part.
Let’s use Music Monday to connect, inspire, celebrate, and advocate for music education. This week, we’re also featuring a selection of resources created by the Musicplay team to help you get started.
Scarf Routine
All you need to get started is a scarf for each student (or simply use hand movements).

Teaching Suggestions:
-
Begin with a guided listening activity using the Hold On lyrics video—have students think about tempo changes, style (smooth or rhythmic), instruments they hear, and how the music makes them feel.
-
Next, introduce the scarf movements. Start by practicing the actions without props, then add scarves as students become more comfortable.
-
Finally, use the full performance video to bring everything together—encourage students to move and sing along. Revisit the activity over a few classes to build confidence and participation.
Simplified Vocals
This arrangement was created to offer a simplified vocal option for students to follow along with the song “Hold On” by Triumph. The vocal line features a simplified melodic and rhythmic structure within a range suitable for children’s voices. It is designed to complement the original recording while providing an accessible option for classroom participation.
