# Spring Songs for Egg Hunts & Basket Fun

Egg and basket hunt games are always a hit in my music room—students love having a turn to hide or find the eggs or baskets. This week, I’m sharing a range of versions for different grade levels, along with a few easy ways to extend these activities beyond just fun and into meaningful musical learning. With a few simple tweaks, these games can reinforce rhythm, listening skills, and musical concepts.

## [Bunny Hides a Basket](https://musicplayonline.com/songs/bunny-hides-a-basket/)

Teaching Suggestions: Select one student to hide the Easter basket and another to find it. The finder leaves the room while the hider hides the basket in plain sight. When the finder returns, the class sings the song, getting louder as the finder gets closer. The game continues until everyone has had a turn. Use this time to review "loud" (forte) and "quiet" (piano).
Extension Activity: Set up Orff instruments in F Pentatonic (remove B's and E's). Students play louder (but still gently) as the finder gets closer to the basket.

Game Directions: Choose five to six students to hide Easter eggs in the classroom while the rest of the class hides their eyes and sings the song. Eggs must be hidden in plain sight. The children hunt for the eggs. Choose new students to hide the eggs.

Extension Activity: Fill plastic eggs with the [Easter Egg Hunt Flashcards](https://musicplayonline.com/media/easter_easter_hunt_flashcards/). You can find these in the [Easter Unit](https://musicplayonline.com/units-list/easter/) on [MusicplayOnline](https://musicplayonline.com). A variety of levels are provided, so you can find one that works best for your classroom. After each round of the game above, students open their egg to reveal their rhythm. Say and clap each of the rhythms. You can also use this as an assessment opportunity, having each student say and clap the rhythm in their egg. You can continue to extend this activity with:
- Rhythm Chain - say all the rhythms in a row.
- Rhythm Erase - Say and clap all the rhythms, then turn one card around. Have the children say all the rhythms again, including the one that is turned over (they do that one from memory). Continue turning rhythms over one at a time until the children have all memorized.
- Which Rhythm Did I Clap? - Clap one of the rhythms. Ask them to identify which rhythm was clapped.
