### **Valentine's Word Composition**

With Valentine's Day approaching, consider this versatile activity suitable for different grade levels. Choose rhythms to match your students' abilities. Introducing slightly more challenging rhythms can be a valuable experience for them. You can access this worksheet here: [What Makes a Good Friend? Create Word Rhythm Worksheet](https://musicplayonline.com/media/valentine_what_makes_good_friend/)

![valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_1](https://blog.musicplay.ca/hs-fs/hubfs/valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_1.jpg?width=1700&height=2200&name=valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_1.jpg)

![valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_2](https://blog.musicplay.ca/hs-fs/hubfs/valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_2.jpg?width=1700&height=2200&name=valentine_what_makes_good_friend_Page_2.jpg)

##### **Various ways to incorporate this activity are:**

1. **Warm-Up:** Practice familiar rhythm patterns, then have students transfer the patterns to body percussion or non-pitched percussion instruments.
2. **Create a "B" Section: **Use this rhythmic activity to develop a B section or Rondo in conjunction with other songs.
3. **Create an Ostinato:** Create a 4 or 8 beat ostinato to play along with songs such as **"**[**I Like You**](https://musicplayonline.com/songs/i-like-you/)” or “[**Love Somebody**](https://musicplayonline.com/songs/love-somebody/)”. Transfer the ostinato to body percussion or non-pitched percussion instruments while singing the song simultaneously.
4. **Assessment Tool:** Use the worksheets above to assess reading, writing, and creating rhythm patterns.
